The Oxfam library
Oxfam Library currently holds some 12,500 books, reports and working papers and 120 periodical titles (although the total number of recorded items on the database is over 18,000, because of items held in other locations in satellite libraries). The bulk of the collection is comprised of material from external sources, although we do keep copies of all published Oxfam books, journals, working papers and annual reports in the Library. Subject coverage includes agriculture, appropriate technology, conflict, economics, education, environment, food aid, forestry, gender studies, health and nutrition, human rights, livelihoods, refugees, social development, water supply and sanitation issues. Photocopying material is usually allowed (subject to copyright regulations), and there is a charge of 10p per page.
Library Access Policy
Oxfam library, which is located in Oxfam House, John Smith Drive, Oxford, is open for reference only to external visitors and researchers, by prior appointment with the Librarian. Genuine inquirers, who can specify the material they plan to use, are welcome.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9.00 – 5.00
Document Supply Policy
Oxfam Library does not, at the moment, supply material for external loan.
Library Catalogue
Oxfam Library has developed its own unique classification scheme and keywords listing over the past 15 years, and materials are catalogued on to our computer database using Idealist software. There are currently over 18,000 references including journal articles. The software allows both free text searching and more complex Boolean searching facilities to locate records of interest.
